Jacqueline Dennis

It is with profound sadness and heavy hearts that the family and friends of Jacqueline (Jackie) Evelyn Dennis announce her passing on May 29, 2017 at age 85. As per her wishes she died peacefully at home with her dear cousin Ellen Liman by her side.

Born in Port Arthur on March 19, 1932, she attended St. James P.S, P.A.C.I., and North Bay Normal School where she embarked on her lifelong career in education. She taught at all levels from primary through to senior and as an active teacher, she obtained a B.A. from Queens University. She was very proud of being the first Head of the Geography Department at Hammarskjold H.S. when it opened. As an enthusiastic volunteer, she was a long-time Girl Guide leader and a lifetime member of St. Paul’s United Church. She was active locally and provincially in Ontario Secondary School Teacher’s Federation and served as President of Retired Teacher’s of Ontario District 2 for two years and then continued as an adviser to the Executive Committee until her passing. Proud of her Scottish heritage, Jackie travelled to Scotland with her mother to explore her roots. Enjoying travelling she experienced Canada from coast to coast, and other parts of the world. Quilting, bridge, knitting, and visiting Loon Lake also occupied her leisure time.

Jackie is survived by her cousins Kathleen Swanson, Jean Orr, Beryl Henders and Ellen Liman and son Jesse and many, many friends. A special thank you to Ellen who cared for and gave courage to Jackie over the last few years. Jackie is predeceased by her parents, Susan and Jack Dennis and numerous relatives.

Visitation will be held at St. Paul's United Church, Waverley Street Monday, June 5, 2017 at 10:00 am. Funeral services will follow at 11:00 a.m. Interment to follow in Riverside Cemetery. If friends so desire, memorials to St. Paul's United Church or Salvation Army would be appreciated. On-line condolences may be made at www.sargentandson.com.
