Passed away at the TBRHSC on January 26, 2019 at the age of 83 years with his family at his side after a short illness. 

Born in Neebing on September 17, 1935 son of Robert and Ada. Jake had achieved many goals in his 83 years. He showed many prize rabbits at fairs in his youth. Jake played baseball as a centre fielder for North Neebing, Rockets, Mission and Murillo Mud Hens. He played hockey for North Neebing, Stanley Park, and ended with Rosslyn Village along with his youngest brother Keith. He met his wife of 55 years, Gladys, in 1962 and they married in Winnipeg in 1963. Jake worked for the CN at Syminton Yards in Transcona. His two children Mary and George Jr were born in Winnipeg before returning to Thunder Bay in 1966 where he started on the school board as a custodian. He worked at Arthur School, Vickers Heights for 25 years, Five Mile, Valley Central, Heath Park and he retired in 1995 from the Lakehead School Board. He was very proud of his children along with their spouses and his grandchildren. 

Jake and Gladys did many road trips with their children to car races and rodeos and later with the motor home to casinos. They camped many years in Graham with brothers Duncan and Keith and later at White Fish Lake. They travelled to Las Vegas, Nova Scotia, Vancouver and took some bus tours to Hinckley and Black Bear Casinos with Keith and brother and sister-in-law Dennis and Myrtle Duclos. 

His greatest joy was his daughter Mary (Dale) Wideman and son George (Teri-Ann) Martyn; his grandchildren Robyn Wideman (Ryan), Troy (Jasmine) Wideman, Shelby Wideman (Jerry) Taylor and Brayden Martyn and great grandchildren Isaac and Eliza Wideman and Scarlett Zanatta. Survived by brothers Norm and Keith; sister Irene Tapak; brother and sister-in-laws Sheila Martyn, Eleanor Martyn, Dennis and Myrtle Duclos Gilbert and Priscella Bruce, Florence Nichols and many nephews and nieces. Predeceased by parents Robert and Ada; in-laws John and Mary Bruce; sisters Flora Gaudreau, Doris Hood, Margaret Goodchild and Kathleen Nesbitt; brothers Reginal and Cecil in infancy, Daniel, William, Harold and Duncan; brother and sister-in-laws Ivan Nesbitt, Joe Gaudreau, Tom Hood, John Tapak, Anita Martyn, Bev Martyn, Jerry Nichols, Mary Martyn and Ernie Goodchild.

A Celebration of Life will be held on Sunday, February 3, 2019 at the DaVinci Centre, Michelangelo Room, from 1:00 p.m. – 4:00 p.m. In lieu of flowers, donations can be made to the Ronald McDonald House (Winnipeg) or to a charity of your choice.
