It is with the deepest sadness that the family announces the peaceful passing of Janaya Elizabeth Georgiou, age 25, at St. Joseph’s Hospice, Thunder Bay, Ontario, as a result of severe brain injury following cardiac arrest.

Janaya was born in Halifax, NS and was raised there and in Thunder Bay since age four. She attended Hammarskjold High School where she was active on the cheerleading squad, which she loved immensely. Janaya had a beautiful and naturally kind soul. She was a creative and gifted singer, a devoted animal lover, a passionate writer, an enthusiastic cook, and a charismatic story teller, with a witty and contagious sense of humour. She exuded radiance and boundless energy, and had a playful curiosity about life.

Janaya’s life was cut short, having lost a painfully long battle with her demons and addiction. She was open and candid around other youth, trying to steer them from destructive paths. Janaya was a risk-taker who loved adventure and was a fierce and persistent fighter, even during her darkest times.

Janaya is survived by her father Demetri (Lynn and step-sisters Sarah and Emma), mother Kathy (Gerry), fiancé Michael Dunn II and family, maternal grandmother, and her beloved dog, Charlie. Additionally, she leaves behind numerous aunts, uncles and cousins across Ontario, Nova Scotia and Saskatchewan. But most importantly, she is survived by her beautiful baby boy, Kaiden Nicholas Dunn, age 6 months, whom she loved dearly. Janaya was predeceased by her paternal grandparents, her maternal grandfather and her closest cousin, Thanasi.

May the long-time sun forever shine upon you, Janaya. You will always be loved, and never forgotten.

The family extends sincere thanks to the medical teams and staff at the TBRHSC and St. Joe’s Care Group for their excellent care and compassion. A private visitation followed by cremation will take place at a later date. A Facebook Group, “In Loving Memory of Janaya Elizabeth Georgiou”, has been created for those wishing to offer condolences and share photos and memories. Online condolences can also be made at Jenkens Funeral Home https://www.arbormemorial.ca/en/jenkens.

In lieu of flowers, the family would very much appreciate any donations to “In Trust for Kaiden Nicholas Dunn” (RBC Account No. 05092-003-5000492), to be maintained for the future of Janaya’s son, Kaiden. Such donations can be made online by E-Transfer, directly at any Thunder Bay branch of RBC Royal Bank, or by Interac Transfer to georgiou@tbaytel.net.
