Janet Baarts

Janet Elise Baarts (nee Cashmore, nee Golder) age 78 of Thunder Bay, a beloved wife, mother, sister and aunt passed away peacefully March 10th 2022 in Thunder Bay Regional Health Sciences Centre after a long list of health issues. She was comforted by her husband Ernie and daughter Callie by her side.

Janet was born June 29th, 1943, in Sudbury, daughter to Harold and Bernadette (Groulx) Cashmore. She and her first husband “Bud” Golder owned and operated Esnagami Lodge for 25 years, a fly-in hunting and fishing resort north of Nakina, Ontario. Janet enjoyed the outdoors surrounded by nature, animals and friends. She was especially fond of her beloved dogs and never missed an opportunity to pet and love any stranger’s dog that crossed her path. Janet wintered in the Florida Keys for many years where she spent her days fishing, enjoying the sunshine, flea markets and eating all the sea food she could. Several years after the tragic death of Bud, Janet married her second husband Ernie Baarts on Nov 19th 2005 in Thunder Bay, Ontario. Their shared faith of their creator Jehovah united them in their love for each other. Ernie and Janet volunteered in Hurricane Relief work after Katrina hit the gulf coast in 2005. Her love of travel took them to several ports of call, Caribbean, Mexico, Montana, Arizona, Florida as well as the East and West coast of Canada. Janet made friends easily because of her generous caring spirit. Her closest friends share in the special memories made on their trips to Esnagami for a girls’ weekend with some good food and drink, laughter and reminiscing was in abundance. She cherished this break time and their friendship.

Janet is survived and will be sadly missed and lovingly remembered by her husband Ernest Baarts who deeply mourns the loss of his best friend, her daughters, Renee Golder, Callie Golder (Christine), step daughter Jaana Butler (Greg), brother Michael Cashmore (Donna), sister Kathryn Moore (Chester) and her nieces and nephews.

Janet is predeceased by her father Harold Cashmore, mother Bernadette Cashmore (nee Groulx), and sister Joan Gagne (nee Cashmore).

Her friends readily join with family in grieving her loss.

Janet’s Family would like to convey our thanks to the Doctors and nurses in the ICU for their compassion and care.

A Memorial Service will be held via Zoom with date and time TBA.
