Janet Elizabeth Wirkkunen

Janet Elizabeth Wirkkunen
It is with profound sadness that the Wirkkunen family announce the passing of their matriarch, Janet Elizabeth Wirkkunen.

Born in Oxford County Ontario, August 7, 1943, she moved to Thunder Bay at a young age. One of her first jobs, at age 16, was at The Orpheum Grill.

Through mutual friends she met the love of her life and future husband, Martti Wirkkunen. They both devoted their lives to their faith, family and friends. Many summers Janet would be found in the kitchen at Camp Aurora, cooking for the people she loved. She spent many years taking care of the homes and families of "her ladies".

Janet and Martti built two homes together from the ground up, while raising two sons who now mourn her, Joel (Lois Anderson) and Jaye (Kerry Wirkkunen and Rikel). Janet had such a deep love for animals that her family teasingly called her "Snow White".

She will be forever missed.

Her call home will be officiated by Pastor Tim Barone at Calvary Lutheran Church, 2820 Donald St. E. at 11 a.m. on Friday, July 20th. Come as You Are.

In lieu of flowers, the family asks that donations be made to Paws For Love Dog Rescue or a charity of your choice. Arrangements entrusted to the Sargent & Son Funeral Home, 21 N. Court Street. On-line condolences may be made at www.sargentandson.com.
