Janis Scott, 76, of Thunder Bay, ON passed away peacefully in hospital on March 24, 2024 after a week surrounded by her loving family.

Janis, the eldest of four children, was born September 2, 1947 to Gertie and Jack Porter in Port Arthur. She spent her childhood in Marathon, Ontario, and spoke fondly of those days. After graduating high school, she moved to Toronto where she worked for Bell Telephone as an Operator. It was in southern Ontario that she met and married Ron Scott. They made Hamilton, Ontario their home until 1972, when they moved with their young family to Thunder Bay.

While working and raising her three busy children, Janis later returned to school to earn her nursing diploma. Jan was proud to work as a Registered Nurse for over 30 years. Most of these years were spent as an Emergency Room Nurse at St. Joseph’s and Thunder Bay Regional Hospital where she thrived in the fast pace and sometimes chaotic atmosphere. To offset her busy work life, she spent many satisfying years at her camp on Moonlight Bay, Lake Superior. Jan and Ron loved the natural beauty at camp and watching the rich wildlife. Jan loved having family join her for food, fun, and laughs. You could always pull up to the “Scottage” to find Jan sitting on her hand-carved Adirondack chair with a coffee in one hand and a book in the other. Her warm smile and ready laughter let everyone know that they were welcome.

Jan is survived by her three children, Sharon (Stephen Seitz), Kevin (Tania Saj), David (Sara Reinikka-Scott) and her four grandchildren: Benjamin, Claire, Alexander and Andrew. She also leaves her three siblings, brothers Jack (Marilyn), Bob (Susan), and sister Lorna Veal (Jim d.2007) and five nieces and two nephews and their children.

Per Jan’s wishes, a service will not be held. In lieu of flowers, a donation in Jan’s name to Grace Place or the charity of your choice would be greatly appreciated. The family would like to thank all of the staff at Thunder Bay Regional Hospital who treated Jan with warmth, care and compassion. We would also like to thank our Aunt Lorna Veal for all of her assistance with our Mom.
