Ms. Janis Diane Medwid passed away peacefully in Hogarth Riverview Manor at age 77 on Saturday, February 17, 2024.

Born in Fort William, Ontario on January 31, 1947 to Joyce and Cecil Proudfoot, she was the oldest of two daughters and graduated from Fort William Collegiate in 1965. After finishing Teachers College, Janis began teaching at Vickers Heights Elementary School until she took leave to care for her two sons in the 1970s. Upon returning to employment, she spent time as a receptionist before returning to school to become an Early Childhood Educator and work at various Daycare Centres in Thunder Bay. As a lifelong resident of Thunder Bay, Janis was a longtime member of St. Luke's Anglican Church where she was baptized, confirmed, married, and taught Sunday School. Being around her family was a blessing to her and she enjoyed camping at Arrow Lake, as well as visiting friends and watching her kids grow and flourish. A kind soul, she was always willing to help others and give a kind smile to everybody.

Janis is survived and remembered by her children Greg (Barb) Medwid and Geoff (Katariina) Medwid, grandchildren Jessica (Dustie), Nikki (Tony), Robert, Peter and Lilianna, and younger sister Michelle Proudfoot. She is predeceased by her parents, Joyce (nee Martin) and Cecil Proudfoot as well as grandparents Olive (nee Polhill) and Peter Martin.

Funeral Services for the late Janis Medwid were held on Tuesday, February 27, 2024 in Gathering Table Church, officiated by Rev. Ann Camber. Interment followed in Mountainview Cemetery, where Janis was laid to rest with her parents.

Donations made in memory of Janis to Gathering Table would be greatly appreciated.

Arrangements have been entrusted to the Westfort Chapel, 420 West Gore Street at James.
