Jean Dokuchic (Lipka) age 93, peacefully passed away on Monday, October 2, 2017 with her loving family by her side. She was born on September 9, 1924 and married Stephen Michael Dokuchic on January 24, 1942. She continued to reside in the family home up until her recent hospitalization.

Jean is survived by her son Michael (Carolyn), daughter Dian Gracey (David), son Allan (Sheryl), grandchildren, Jane, Sara, Alyson, Ryan, Zachary and Ashley as well as brothers John Lipka, Albert (Barb) Lipka, sister Mary Kruk and sisters-in-law Zenovia Stoyka and Sally Umpherson. She was predeceased by her husband Stephen and sister Pearl Klages.

Family get togethers often involved sharing stories of having lived for close to a century, being raised on a farm, doing chores, chasing the chickens as well as stories of the East End area family after moving to McLaughlin Street as a teen. After marrying Stephen, she became a lifetime employee of Zellers starting with Store No. 4 on Victoria Avenue, transferring to the “new” store in Northwood where she became stockroom manager until retirement.

Mom remained active in retirement, volunteering her time, playing bingo, bowling, attending seniors’ club, chauffeuring her friends who didn’t drive and taking regular bus trips to the casino. Throughout, she continued to supply the best pyrohy and holubtsi to family and friends.

Special thanks goes to the exceptional care provided by Drs. Miller, Woods and Minty together with homecare Nurse Tyler and Nurse Practitioner Aaron.

If friends so desire, donations to the Alzheimer’s or the Arthritis Society would be gratefully accepted.

Visitation for family and friends will be held at 1 p.m. on Thursday, October 5, 2017 at Jenkens Funeral Home.
