Mrs. Jean Mary Drazecky age 92 years, a resident of Thunder Bay, passed away peacefully with family by her side at the Thunder Bay Regional Health Sciences Centre on Saturday, May 2, 2015.
Jean was born in Fort William on January 12, 1923 and was a lifelong resident of Thunder Bay. She spent her youth working on the Zatti family farm and then at Canada Car Foundry during World War II. She married Frank Drazecky in 1948 and they enjoyed 59 years together. Jean worked many years in the dress department at Chapples Department Store.
She had many interests and when she wasn’t bowling, golfing, or cross-country skiing, she would be knitting, sewing, or gardening. She was a strong and independent woman who lived in her own home until the age of 90, then due to failing health, spent the last two years at Pinewood Court where she enjoyed all the activities.
Jean is survived by sisters Emma Ficek, Ada Stewart (Vernon BC), Rena Kettering (L.A. California), Sisters-in-law Joyce Zatti, Joan Zatti, Rose Skochinski, Stella Holgerson, and Edith Drazecky, brother-in-law Walter Drazecky and numerous nephews and nieces. She was predeceased by husband Frank (2007), parents Aurora and Giovanni Zatti, sisters Anna Pugliese, Mary Jackson, brothers Aldo Zatti and John Zatti.
Funeral services will be held on Friday, May 8, 2015 at 10:00 a.m. in the Blake Funeral Chapel, with Rev. Msgr. P.M. Stilla V.G. officiating. Interment to follow in Sunset Memorial Gardens. Visitation will be held on Thursday evening, from 6:00 p.m. – 8:00 p.m. in the Blake Funeral Chapel. In lieu of flowers, donations can be made to the Alzheimer Society.
Jean Drazecky will be remembered in the Blake Funeral Chapel Memorial Grove. Annual dedication service Sunday, June 12, 2016.
