Jean Nisbet

Mrs. Jean Millicent Nisbet, age 94, passed away October 26, 2017, at Pioneer Ridge Home for the Aged.

Mom was born in Scoble Township on June 29, 1923, to William and Jane Tough and moved to Fort William as a child. She graduated from the Vocational High School and worked at Searle Elevator prior to her marriage to Stewart Nisbet in 1948 and in the office at St. Thomas Anglican Church for many years after having her family.

A long-time member of the Zion Lutheran Church family, Mom was the organist for many years and formed many close friendships there. Once Zion closed, she attended Hilldale Lutheran Church.  A force to be reckoned with, Mom was opinionated, dressed to the nines at all times, and fiercely protective of her family. She loved shoes, crossword puzzles and Jeopardy. Never one to stay home, she was involved in many church activities, was a member of the Ladies Auxiliary Branch 6 Legion, and volunteered with the Humane Society in her earlier years and at Hogarth Riverview Manor until 2008.

Mom is survived by her children Margaret Bass (Dominic Cianfagna), Bill and Linda Nisbet, and Betsy and Rick Knough; grandchildren Carys and Adam Sabaz (Zoe and Rya), Janey Pellegrino and John Blanchette, Kevin and Jackie Knough (Korbin), Paul Pellegrino; and former son-in-law Cosimo Pellegrino. Nieces and nephews also survive.  Mom was predeceased by her loving husband Stewart in 1998, a son Thomas in infancy, her parents, brothers Bert and Norman James, brother-in-law Allan Nisbet, sisters-in-law Greta James and Muriel Nisbet, as well as dear friends Shirley Sandberg and Orison Corcoran.

Cremation has taken place, and a memorial service will be held at Hilldale Lutheran Church on Thursday, November 2, at 11 a.m., with a reception to follow in the church hall. A private interment will be held at a later date.  If friends wish, donations may be directed to the Thunder Bay and District Humane Society or a charity of choice.

The family would like to extend a heartfelt thank you to the wonderful staff and volunteers of Plaza 2, Pioneer Ridge (nursing, recreation, dietary, housekeeping, physio, music therapy), for the excellent care Mom received over the past three-and-a-half years. Their dedication and compassion ensured her safety and comfort and the family’s peace of mind.
