With prayers the family announces the passing of Jeannine Mascotto, their beloved sister, aunt, and great aunt after a lengthy illness.

Jeannine was born on July 17, 1940 to John Mascotto and Annette Geretto in Geraldton Ontario. The second child of 9 siblings, she is survived by her sister Eleanor of Thunder Bay and brothers Dave of Michigan, Lorenzo and Bill of Geraldton and Tom of B.C. Also survived by numerous nieces and nephews and their children.

She was predeceased by brothers Richard, Jerome and Bernard.

In her younger days, Jeannine circumnavigated the world by car, bus, rail, plane and ship. She spent a year in Australia and Rome, travelled through Egypt by camel but was always happy to return to her beloved Canada. She earned her pilot's license and deciding to get a career in order, she returned to school to obtain a B.A. She taught for a number of years at Confederation College in Dryden, Sioux Lookout and Thunder Bay, where she retired. For most of her life she was church organist and later taught the piano and harp. Never one to sit still, she gave wonderful luncheons, welcomed all friends and relatives into her home, took creative writing and art lessons and even sold some of her paintings. A true friend, she remained in touch with numerous childhood friends and acquaintances she met along the way and relatives near and far. It was no small feat for her to send out 150 Christmas cards.

Funeral services for the late Jeannine Mascotto will be held on Friday, May 14, 2010 at 11:00 AM in Our Lady of Loretto Roman Catholic Church, 290 Grenville Avenue, Thunder Bay celebrated by Father Rey Sorgon. A time of fellowship will follow in the parish hall. Visitation for friends will be held on Thursday evening from 6:00 PM until 8:00 PM in the EVEREST FUNERAL CHAPEL, 299 Waverley St. at Algoma.
