It is with great sadness that we announce the passing of Gerald Norman Della Mattia on April 21, 2025, two days before his 94th birthday. Born in Toronto on April 23, 1931, he later moved to Fort William, working alongside his father at T. Zanette Ltd as he learned the tile, terrazzo and marble trade. After working there for 33 years he then worked for the City of Thunder Bay in the Parks and Rec Department until his retirement.
One of his favorite pastimes was hunting with his kids. He also enjoyed playing cribbage as well as a yearly boxing day hockey game with his buddies.
He met Lillian Bordeniuk at the YMCA where they were both members of a tumbling group called The Dominos. They later married on November 21, 1953. Jerry was an active member of St. Elizabeth’s Church.
He is survived by his wife, Lillian; children: Judy (Claudio) Caratti, Fred (Joanne), Joe (Jamie), and Karen; and numerous grandchildren, great grandchildren, nieces and nephews.
He was predeceased by his parents Rico and Ida Della Mattia; and his sister, brother-in-law and nephew (Angie, Joe and Louis Buset).
As per Jerry’s wishes, a private interment will take place at a later date.
To know him was to love him.
Rest in Peace.
