It is with deep sadness and heavy hearts, the family of Joan Marilynn Hopper Clark announces her passing on Sunday October 9, 2016, in her hometown of Terrace Bay, Ontario. Mom was granted her angel wings with her family by her side.

Joan is survived by her beloved husband of 51 years, Murray Clark of Terrace Bay, whom she loved dearly. Their love was always strong and unwavering.  Joan is survived by her two daughters; Kelly Clark Warner of Terrace Bay and Tracy Clark Bradley (Ryan) of Burlington, Ontario. Perhaps mom’s greatest joy in life was her four grandchildren whom she absolutely adored; Jake Warner of Thunder Bay, Alexis Warner of Terrace Bay and Brooke and Cole Bradley of Burlington.

Nothing made Mom happier than spending time with them, teaching them how to cook or bake, cheering them on from the sidelines with their favourite sports or simply sitting on the couch reading books, singing songs or dancing with them.

Joan is also survived by family that will miss her terribly; her brother Robert Hopper (Barb) of Terrace Bay, sister Jean Nolan (Bruce) of Thunder Bay and sister Beth Moffitt of Thunder Bay.

Mom was so fortunate to have been blessed with such a large extended family and countless friends, whom she treasured and adored.

Predeceased by her beautiful daughter, Jennifer Ann whom she loved and missed dearly each and every day, her mother Lois Hopper, her father Verne Hopper and of course, her younger sister Mary Jane Hopper.

Joan’s life was dedicated to her family and her community. She was actively involved in the betterment of Terrace Bay for decades, a true Pillar in the community and will be greatly missed. Her many passions in life included countless hours dedicated to The Terrace Bay Figure Skating Club, The Northern Ontario Skate Canada Section ,  The Terrace Bay 50th Anniversary Celebrations, The Older Adult Centres Association of Ontario, The Senior Achievement Award Selection Committee and The North Shore Harvest Cupboard. Mom served on many ground breaking committees and Boards, helping several organizations grow and flourish.

In addition to her volunteer work, mom was an employee of Kimberly Clark for 28 years. She thoroughly enjoyed her career and made lifelong friendships with so many. Mom loved her friends whole heartedly and unconditionally.

Perhaps Joan’s greatest Legacy and proudest accomplishment was her leadership and tireless work in the creation of The Terrace Bay Seniors Centre. With the birth of the Seniors Centre, emerged  the new home for The Terrace Bay Cultural Centre, The Library and Michael King Hall, which will be enjoyed by the community for years and years to come.  Joan’s initiative, her forward thinking, her passion and dedication will be enjoyed by so many.

Joan was honoured with many Awards in her lifetime including Terrace Bay Volunteer of the Year. We are so proud of all your accomplishments, Mom.

To honor Joan’s wishes, a Special ‘Celebration of Life’ will be held on Friday October 142016 at 11:00am, at The Terrace Bay Cultural Centre.

Luncheon will follow.

In lieu of flowers, donations can be made to The Spina Bifida Association of Canada, in honour of her daughter or The Harvest Food Cupboard, in Joan’s memory.
