Joan Kunnas

It is with heavy hearts that the family of Joan Elizabeth Kunnas announce her passing on Monday October 18, 2021.

Joan was born on March 30, 1941 in Almonte, Ontario and lived her early life in the Ottawa Valley. Joan was a primary school teacher who loved working with young children. “Mrs K” was a second mother to many but stopped full-time teaching to start a family of her own after marrying Ron in 1966. Her children kept her busy with their many activities while growing up in Thunder Bay. You could always find a herd of their friends in the basement rec room. Mrs K welcomed and fed everyone. The harsh elements of the polio she contracted as a child returned in her later years causing chronic pain and mobility loss, but she never lost her smile, humour and charity towards others. Her last years were spent at Jasper Place where the wonderful staff took great care of her.

Joan is survived by her husband Ron, children Shawn (Jennifer – Thunder Bay), Erin Roulston (Mike – Calgary) and Kristen (Toronto), brothers Jerry Jordan (Lynn), Jack Jordan (Roberta) and brother-in-law Gary Kunnas (Marion); numerous nieces and nephews and finally her seven cherished grandchildren Michaela, Molly and Mara Kunnas; Morgan, Annika and Roxanna Roulston and Mika Hussey. “Grammie” will be greatly missed. She was predeceased by her mother Marion Jordan, father George Jordan, brother Bill Jordan and sister-in-law Kathleen Jordan.

The family thanks all who have extended condolences and cremation has taken place with no service planned. Online condolences may be made at www.sargentandson.com.
