Joan Moskalyk, age 84 years, passed away peacefully with her family by her side on January 31, 2018 at Bethammi Nursing Home.

Joan was born on September 24, 1933 in Port Arthur, ON. She was a good athlete in her day, competing in bowling, softball, hockey and horseshoe pitching.

Joan’s family was the most important thing in the world to her and time spent together made her the happiest. She was the coolest granny around, always quick with a jab, often on the receiving end of "cementies" and doughnuts compared to hockey pucks.
Cooking was another of her passions. Her perogies and cabbage rolls were legendary. Her apple pies and apple squares fueled by the five crab apple trees in her yard were awesome. The coffee pot was always on and always served with 18 per cent Lucerne.

Joan was a very strong woman, known for doing it her way. She had an affinity with young people that led to more than occasional marathon cribbage sessions in the kitchen where she'd throw in advice, laughter, a genuine concern and maybe a few beers. The door was always open and you immediately felt at home.

Mom told the Grim Reaper to take a hike on several occasions. Battling COPD, her numbers were literally off the charts, but the staff at the Thunder Bay Regional got her back for a life that continued on for several more years. As infirmities took their toll, mom was a resident of Bethammi, becoming a favorite of the staff, sharing her humor and feistiness.
Sincere thank you to the CCAC workers, staff at Bethammi and favorite doc, Dr. Probizanski.

Joan will be remembered by her sons Terry (wife Jeanne, granddaughters Stacey (Mike Kirchner) and Tara), Gary (wife Tracy and granddaughter Heather, grandson Tyler), Len (wife Sandra, granddaughter Ashley, grandson Michael), sister Frances Caron U.S.A., many nieces, nephews and cousins, as well as her dear friend Joyce Vidas. She is survived by sister-in-law Helen Barden and brother-in-law Bill Graham.

She was predeceased by her husband Peter (2000), parents Arthur and Adeline Berlinquette; in-laws Alex and Barbara Moskalyk; sisters Catherine (Raymond Portelance), Laura (Don Torrie), Valerie Graham; brother Arthur Jr “Johnny” Berlinquette; nephew Boyce Landvik; niece Sharon Donahue; and brothers-in-law Larry Caron and George Barden.

As per Joan’s wishes, cremation will take place and the celebration of Joan’s life will be held on Friday, May 25, 2018 at Harborview Funeral Home when family and friends will be able to attend, and interment will take place at Riverside Cemetery.

If friends so desire, donations in Joan’s memory may be made to a charity of your choice.
