Mrs. Joan Susan Stefurak age 84 years, passed away on Friday June 10, 2016 at Roseview Manor. Joan was born on June 18, 1931 in Thunder Bay (formerly Port Arthur ON.) to Theodore & Laura (Coghlan) Guerard.
Upon finishing high school, Joan went on to graduate from the St. Joseph’s School of Nursing in 1952. She worked at Mckellar Hospital until her semi-retirement where she worked for a few years as a nurse at Bombardier. In 1956 Joan married Wilfred Stefurak and together they had 3 children, Sherry, Glenn and Brian. Joan and Wilfred built their home in Westfort where she lived until her move into Roseview because of her declining health.
Joan’s greatest memories were her times spent at their camp (Graham ON.) with her grandchildren, travelling to visit her sons, family get togethers and her nursing reunions.
Joan was especially known for her wonderful skills at making perogies & cabbage rolls, which she made for every special occasion. She will be greatly missed. Joan is survived by daughter Sherry (Ken), son Glenn (Laurie), son Brian (Lianne), grandchildren, Ryan, Jason, Lauren, Tyler, Duncan, Cassandra & Josalie. Also survived by sister Lois (Ray) & family, sister in law Susan & family and numerous other relatives. She was predeceased by her husband Wilfred (1996), brother Jim, brother John, sister Billie and parents Doc and Laura. Funeral Services will be held Thursday June 16, 2016 at 12:10 pm at St. Agnes Church. Memorial donations may be made in Joan’s name to the Alzheimer’s Society.
Joan Stefurak will be remembered in the Blake Funeral Chapel Memorial Grove. Annual dedication service Sunday, June 11, 2017.
