Joaquim Alves Dias

With heavy hearts we announce the peaceful passing of Joaquim “Jack” Dias on Tuesday, November 15, 2016 at the TBRHSC.

Jack was born in Belmonte, Portugal to Luis Dias & Emilia Correira and joined his eight siblings.  At a young age his family moved to Angola, Africa where he would later meet and marry his wife of 45 years and welcome two children (Rui & Paula). 

In 1975 they moved back to Portugal where he spent time playing soccer and spending time with his family. 

In 1977 shortly after the birth of their third child (Jorge) they immigrated to Canada and settled down in Thunder Bay. He spent his working years as a Heavy Equipment Operator at Hacquoil Construction where he traveled all over Northwestern Ontario. 

He loved spending time with his family and watching the Blue Jays or the Maple Leafs play but he was most content in his quintal.

He will be greatly missed by his wife Vivelina, his children Rui (Penny) Dias, Paula (Stacey) Cusick, Jorge (Brenda) Dias and his grandchildren Kyle, Josh & Robyn Dias and Athena & Gauge Cusick  He was predeceased by his parents and two of his siblings. Funeral services will be held on Monday, November 21 2016,when family and friends will gather for Funeral Mass at 10:00am, at St. Peter's Church celebrated by Rev. Joseph Arockiam.  

Interment will follow in St. Andrew's Cemetery. Prayers will be offered Sunday afternoon, November 20, 2016 at  3:00pm in the Blake Funeral Chapel.  In lieu of flowers, donations can be made to the Northern Cancer Fund c/o TBRHS Foundation.

Joaquim Dias will be remembered in the Blake Funeral Chapel Memorial Grove.  Annual dedication service Sunday, June 11, 2017.
