John Fredrick Cofell

It is with sadness that we announce the loss of John Fredrick Cofell on March 24, 2021 at 79 years of age. John was born January 21st, 1942 in Chatham, Ontario. John grew up in Ingersoll, Ontario and was proud to be a University of Waterloo graduate (Mechanical Engineering, Class of 1966). He moved to Thunder Bay after graduation, started a family, and worked in the pulp and paper industry for many years.

John was a lifelong learner, he frequently sought out opportunities to acquire new skills and knowledge. He had a love of nature, enjoying fishing, birdwatching and gardening. John was an accomplished builder and skilled craftsman. His involvement in his later years with the Thunder Bay 55 Plus Centre and the Fix-It-Club brought him great satisfaction. He especially loved being at his cottage on Lake Superior, where he worked on many projects and spent quality time with his family.

John is survived by his wife, Cecilia; his daughter Janis Farrish and son-in-law David, and grandchildren Allison and Matthew; step-children Renee Kaizer and Stephen Kaizer; and step-grandchildren Darian and Alexander Kusik and Konrad Kaizer. John was predeceased by his first wife Joanne and his parents Fred and Marion Cofell.

Cremation has taken place and a private family memorial will be held at a later date. Donations in John’s memory may be made to the Thunder Bay Field Naturalists or the charity of your choice.
