It is with great sorrow that the family of John Livingston (Poppies) announces his passing on March 9, 2015 with his family at his side after a brief battle with cancer.

John was born May 31, 1938 in Rainy River, Ontario.  He moved to Fort William as a child where he attended Franklin Street School and Fort William Collegiate High School.  Upon graduation he started working at Intercom Supply, then Bell Canada where he worked for 32 years.  After his retirement the hard work started when he began a business with his son Barry, Livingston Contracting.

John’s Heaven on Earth was Sturgeon Bay where he spent many hours enjoying his family, friends, neighbours and a good scotch with ice harvested from the Bay.  John was active in the community throughout his life.  He was a Cub Scout Leader, a volunteer with Telecom Pioneers of Canada and most recently serving and cooking meals at the Dew Drop Inn.  John served as Chairman of the Glengowan Condo Board for many years.

He was also active with the Municipality of Neebing as a committee member and a volunteer Fireman in its early years.  He attended the Men Club at First Church United and most recently at Wesley United Church.  John is survived by his wife Sandra, sons Bruce (Maria Vasanelli) and Barry (Jackie), daughter Lisa (Tyler Nakesch) and Poppies 5 grandchildren Mallory (Phil), Kennedy, Alison (Michael Meany), Parker Livingston and Carissa and Ryan Nakesch.

John is also survived by brothers Douglas and William Livingston, in-laws Neil and Barb Long, Gordon and Ruthann Long, Janis and Bill Mayer, Dennis Long and many nieces and nephews.  John was predeceased by his parents Bert and Astrid Livingston and his niece Carla Long.  A Celebration of Life will be held on Saturday, March 14, 2015 at 1:00 p.m. at The NorWester Hotel (Highway 61).  In remembrance of John, contributions to St. Joseph’s Hospice or the Northern Cancer Research Foundation would be appreciated.

John Livingston will be remembered in the Blake Funeral Chapel Memorial Grove.  Annual dedication service Sunday, June 12, 2016.
