John Maciupa at the age of 93, passed away peacefully on Wednesday, February 28, 2018 at Hogarth Riverview Manor.
Formally of West Mary St., John was born on July 3 1924, in Lesko,Western Ukraine/Poland. He was taken to Germany in 1941 as a labourer. While there, he met and married Eugenia (Gene) Ircha. In 1948 he immigrated to Fort William, and was employed with Saskatchewan Wheat Pool until retirement in 1989.
John loved fishing, camping, gardening, and watching all sports. He was a member of the Church of Transfiguration, where on Sundays, his passion was singing in the choir. In 1991 John met and married Marika Oleksiuk.
Predeceased by his son Raymond, 1st wife Eugenia, daughter Alice (Lesia), 2nd wife Marika, John is survived by daughter MaryAnn (Mike) Black, grandsons Jason (Zelka) Aaron (Kelly) , and great grandsons Nikolas and Markus.
Prayers (Panachyda) will be offered at the Blake Funeral Chapel on Friday, March 2, 2018 at 7:00 P.M. Funeral services will be held on Saturday, March 3, 2018 at 11:00 A.M. in the Ukrainian Catholic Church of the Holy Cross 415 Victoria Avenue West celebrated by Rev. Stepan Didur. Interment will be in the Ukrainian Catholic Cemetery. In lieu of flowers, donations can be made to the charity of your choice.
