Mr. John Terence Murray, age 71, a resident of Thunder Bay passed away unexpectedly on Sunday, June 17, 2018.

John was born in Glasglow, Scotland on February 8, 1947. He came with his family to Thunder Bay in 1957. As a proud survivor of polio as a young child, he overcame many obstacles. His fondest memories included wrestling for Lakeview High School in which he won the Northwestern Ontario Wrestling Championship. After high school, John began his career at the Provincial Papers in Thunder Bay as one of the operators of the trailing blade, where his co-workers named him ‘Haggis’, because of his Scots upbringing. His career ended before he wanted it to, due to poor health. Throughout his life he was an avid camper, fisherman and hunter.

John will be missed by his loving wife of 48 years, Jane Murray, his daughters Heather (Battista) Filice and Karen Murray (Kerry Eckman), his loving mother Helen Johnson, and younger brother Allen Murray. He was a proud Papa to Jonathan, Kalie and Elissa. John is also survived by 4 nieces, Laura (Ron) Chard, Lynn (Dan) Murray, Erinn (Chris) Riutta, and Stephanie Murray.
He was predeceased by his brother David Murray, and his mother and father in-law Jean and Jack McLeod.

A Celebration of Life will be held for John on Monday, June 25, 2018 at the Moose Hall, 434 Fort William Road, between 5:00 p.m. and 8:00 p.m. in the front section of the building.

If friends so desire, donations may be made in John’s memory to the Canadian Cancer Society or a charity of choice.
