It is with great sadness that the family of Giovanni (John) Veltri announce his passing on Friday, October 5, 2018, at his home, surround by his loving family.

John was born in Dipignano, Italy, on December 4, 1923; and immigrated to Canada in 1949. Upon coming to Thunder Bay, John took whatever job he could find, working in the bush, at the Grain Elevator, and CN Rail, working as many hours as were available to him. John began working for the City of Thunder Bay in 1951 Water Division, where he worked for over 36 years. He loved telling stories during Sunday dinners, of his adventures over his long career. Thunder Bay is also where he met the love of his life Albina. Over their 68 years of marriage, they enjoyed many passions together such as making authentic Italian foods and wine; but none more so than tending to their many flower gardens and gigantic vegetable garden. John`s pride and joy was his lawn, which was so well manicured, it was soft enough one could sleep on it.

John will be lovingly remembered by his wife of 68 years, Albina; his three sons Nick (Susan), Lorenzo (Susie) and Sam (Heather). He is also survived by his grandchildren, Liana (Mike), Matthew (Kayla), Jason, Colin (Melissa), Cole, Gienevieve (Jordan), and step-grandchildren Nicole (Derrick), Brandon (Stacey) and step-grandchildren; Kristi (Emilio), Kelli (Chris) and Kari (Dan). Also left behind are his many great-grandchildren; Henry, Isaac, Odin, Danika, Lauren, Jermaine, Brooklyn, Paige, Kayla, Max, Landyn, Chase, Allie, Peyton and Jasper. John absolutely loved having his house full with all his grandchildren, and great-grandchildren together.

John is predeceased by his three brothers; Joe, Frank and Tony as well as his sister Marietta.
A private family service will take place as per Johns wishes. In lieu of flowers donations to the Northern Heart and Stroke Foundation or The Northern Cancer Fund would be greatly appreciated.
