John White Crooks

After a great day of skiing and a pint of beer in the sunshine with friends and his beloved wife Barbara, Canadian Tire lost a loyal customer in the sudden cardiac death of John White Crooks on Saturday March 24 at the age of 79.

A gentle man of dry wit and stylish sophistication, John had an abiding interest and skill in his life’s work of dentistry, a profession he practiced to his death. His keen awareness of current affairs and politics was legendary in his family and among his friends.
A Port Arthur native, John was the last surviving child of Dorothy and Herbert Crooks, predeceased by his brothers Jamie, Bill, George and sister Anna Margaret.
He was a man of simple pleasures, his greatest love being that which he felt for his wife Barbara, children Lindsay and Kelly, his increasingly interesting grandchildren Devon, Lexi, Aiden and Charlie and his honourary daughter Erica Young known in his heart as “little ER”.
In addition to his family, he leaves behind a dear sister-in-law Mabel Crooks and many caring and cared for nieces and nephews.
A round of golf with a friend, a day of skiing in the springtime, puttering at the lake, watching the sun rise and set over the Giant and Caribou and even better sitting around the dinner table over an evening with his family…………….these were the things that brought him contentment and joy………….along with a multitude of friends gathered thoughtfully throughout a long life of quiet service.
We will miss his graceful presence in our lives.

At john’s request, there will be no formal service but friends are encouraged to drink a toast to his memory, enjoy a run down a ski slope or hit a great golf shot and find time to phone or visit with the family when they can.

As expressions of sympathy memorials to the Thunder Bay District Humane society would be appreciated. Arrangements are in care of the Sargent & Son Funeral Directors, 21 N. Court Street. On-line condolences may be made at www.sargentandson.com.
