The family of John William Lyons, age 88 years, sadly announces the peaceful passing of Dad, on September 8, 2015 at St. Joseph’s Hospice, with family by his side.

John was born in Marlbourough, Ireland into a family of 13. Dad joined the British Army at the age of 15 and was deployed to “6th British Airborne,” also known as the “Red Devils.” He was dropped behind enemy lines on D-Day to defend 2 Bridges, one renamed Pegasus. Dad stayed in the army for 10 years. He then started his career as a Steel Worker and worked on the CN Tower in Toronto. Upon their retirement Mum & Dad moved to Thunder Bay to enjoy camping and fishing and their trips to Las Vegas.

John has left behind his daughter, Julie (Douglas) Little and daughter-in-law Ann-Marie; grandchildren Troy, Tracey (Jody), Emily Michelle and great grandson Tyler. He will also be missed by his sisters Ann (Armand) and Allison (Rick); niece Tracey-Jane (Cliff) and nephew Andrew as well as his great nieces and nephews, Ryan, Samantha (Marcus, Charlie & Sophia) Danial and Stephanie.

He was predeceased by his wife of 58 years, Olwen and his son Michael; parents John and Elizabeth Lyons; sisters Sonya, Betty and Edith; brothers Leslie, Tom and Michael as well as his brother-in-law and sister-in-law, Mierwen and Alan Giles.

Dad was so looking forward to going back to cards at the West Thunder Community Centre on Tuesday & Thursday. He was so grateful to Dennis & Tony who made sure he got there.

Cremation has taken place and there will be a Celebration of Life or as Dad would call it, “a wake” at a later date. In lieu of food & flowers, a donation to the Cancer Society, St. Joseph’s Hospice or a charity of your choice would be appreciated.

Arrangements have been entrusted to the Westfort Chapel, 420 West Gore Street at James.
