It is with great sadness the Fitzpatrick family announces the unexpected passing on October 29, 2018 of Joseph (Joe) Fitzpatrick at the age of 92, peacefully in his sleep.

Joe was predeceased by his wife, Maureen, who passed away in 2007 after 56 years of marriage.  He is survived by his children, Paul Fitzpatrick (Mary Jo), Mary-Jo Corkum (Hector) and Colleen Truelove (Brad), his grandchildren, Jessica (Simon Baker) & David Fitzpatrick (Bianca Kelos), Lauren (Niels Smeets), Andrea (Adam Martinelli) & Max Corkum, Amanda & Stephanie Truelove and his great grandchildren Ben & Nora Smeets.

Joe was born on December 3, 1925 and raised in Miramichi, New Brunswick. At the age of 15, he left New Brunswick and headed west with this brother Martin to work at the Royal Canadian Air Force base just outside of Brandon, Manitoba.  With his brother Martin, he eventually moved to Fort William at the age of 19.  He joined the Fort William Police Force on April 1, 1947 and retired as Superintendent after 38 years of service in 1985.

Joe and Maureen’s passion was their family and they never missed an opportunity to attend their children and later their grandchildren’s activities. They could always be counted on for their encouragement and support.

Joe was the youngest of 9 children.  He is survived by his sister, Sister Mary Fitzpatrick RHSJ.  He is predeceased by his parents John and Catherine (Phelan) Fitzpatrick, brothers William (Catherine) Fitzpatrick, James Fitzpatrick, Martin (Thelma, Mary) Fitzpatrick, and sisters Annie (Alex) MacDonald, Margaret (Frank) MacDonald, Eileen (Vincent) Hogan, and Theresa (Aaron) Donovan, brother-in-law David Rooney (Joan), sisters-in law Agnes Kelly (Dan), Verdi St. James (Gerry), Edna MacDonald (Duncan), and Evelyn Rooney, plus many nieces and nephews.

Funeral services will be held on Saturday, November 3, 2018 when family and friends will gather for Funeral Mass at 10:30 a.m. at St. Patrick’s Cathedral celebrated by Rev. Msgr. P.M. Stilla V.G.  Visitation will be held at 9:30 a.m. prior to the funeral mass.  At his request, cremation has taken place and there will be a private family interment.

If friends desire in lieu of flowers, memorial donations to the Thunder Bay Regional Health Sciences Centre Foundation – Our Hearts at Home Cardiovascular Campaign would be appreciated.

Joseph Fitzpatrick will be remembered in the Blake Funeral Chapel Memorial Grove.  Annual dedication service Sunday, June 9, 2019.
