It is with profound sadness the family announce the death of Joseph Anthony Furioso on August 1, 2017.  Joe was born in Fort William on August 8, 1934.  He worked at Canadian Pacific Railway, Keefer Terminals and retired from Northern Breweries. Joe married Elizabeth (Betty) Ross on September 21, 1957.  Together they raised three sons Bill, Larry and Ron.  Following the passing of his mother, Joe and Betty continued the tradition of Sunday spaghetti and meatballs suppers.  After Betty died, Sunday suppers continued for the family.  Joe helped raise his grandchildren by babysitting on the weekends, instilling in them the importance of family and friends. Joe’s family and friends were the most important aspect of his life.  His home was a gathering place for all and many happy memories were made there. Whether it be special holiday occasions or just the gathering of his morning coffee gang.  He was never happier than when he sat at the dining table and his house was filled with family and friends.  He was a wonderful father, Poppa, and friend and was cherished by all. Joe was a member of St. Dominic’s Church and the Da Vinci Centre.  He liked to bowl, golf, visit with friends at the casino and in his later years, you would find him many afternoons playing cards at “the office” (Da Vinci Centre). Joe is predeceased by his wife Betty (May 23, 1998), his parents Annibale and Mary Furioso, siblings, Doris Furioso, Rose Ward, Millie Greer, also, Crawford Greer (Brother-in-law), Dorothy Furioso (Sister-in-law), Jack and Jean Ross (Brother-in law and Sister-in-law). Joe is survived by his sons, Bill (Cathy), Larry (Donna) and Ron (Karen).  Siblings, Richard, Ken (Pat), Jim (Carol) and Annie Skribka.  Grandchildren, Ryan (Shannon McKenzie), Matthew, Nicole (Mike) Heath and Sara (Mark Lysak), and numerous nieces and nephews.

Funeral services will be held on Tuesday, August  8, 2017, when family and friends will gather for Funeral Mass at 3:00pm, at St. Dominic's Church. Interment will follow at a later time privately in St. Patrick's Cemetery. Prayers will be offered Monday August  7, 2017 at  7:00pm in the Blake Funeral Chapel.  If friends so wish, donations can be made to the Heart and Stroke Foundation of Thunder Bay, Northern Cancer Fund or to the charity of your choice.
