It is with great sadness we announce the passing of Joseph Victor O’Quinn on Thursday, October 18, 2018, at the age of 61, after a courageous battle with cancer.

Joe was born on May 30, 1957 in Halifax and then moved to Stephenville, Newfoundland, where he spent his youth growing up on “The Rock”.

Joe moved to Thunder Bay in 1983 where he worked at CP Rail for 35 years. This year he was so excited to retire and spend time at camp riding his shiny new side-by-side.

Joe took pride in raising his two beautiful children, Katie and Trevor, with their mom Gail. As a family, many good times were spent at Sandstone Lake, taking trips to the states, Newfoundland and Florida. There were a lot of early mornings at the rink going to Trevor’s hockey games and Katie’s figure skating lessons.

Joe’s pride and joy were Katie and Trevor who will forever miss their dad. Joe’s best buddy Charlie Boy will also miss his “Papa Joe”. Charlie was Joe’s constant companion at camp, always by his side while Joe worked, fished and relaxed at the place he loved to be.

Our dad was a quiet guy, and was always there for us to lend a helping hand. He never once complained or was sorry for himself during his illness. He never gave up until it was time. That was our dad’s stubborn nature. We will love you always.

Joe spent the last five years with Kathy whom he cherished. She brought much happiness to his life. They were able to go on many trips, including a cruise and to visit Joe’s family on the East Coast. Joe was fortunate to take a trip to PEI in September with Kathy where he got to spend time with his family who meant so much to him.

Joe will be lovingly remembered by his children Katie and Trevor (Ashla), their mom Gail, his Charlie Boy and his sweetheart Kathy. Mom Joan, his dad Stan and wife Joan, brothers Stan (Cindy), Dave (Sherrie), Tony (Kandi), Tim, Tom (Lorraine) and Patty. Sisters Bernadette (Jeff) and Darlene, and numerous aunts, uncles, nieces, nephews, and cousins.

Joe was predeceased by his infant daughter Sarah.

A celebration of Joe’s life will be held in the chapel of the Harbourview Funeral Centre on Wednesday, October 24 at 11:00 a.m. officiated by Suzanne Quirion. Visitation for family and friends will begin at 10:00 a.m.

In lieu of flowers, donations to the charity of choice would be appreciated.
