Mrs. Joyce Cava, age 79 years, passed away peacefully with her loving family at her side on Monday, February 9, 2015 in St. Joseph’s Care Group. 

Joyce was born in Garland, Manitoba on April 15, 1935, to Dan and Anne Sawicki and moved to Fort William with her family at the age of 5.  She married Jim Cava on October 19, 1957 and together they raised two children Kim and Mark.  Joyce enjoyed golfing, curling, dancing and her visits to the casino. 

A talented cook, she enjoyed preparing meals for her family and friends.  Joyce was a devoted wife, mother and grandmother.  Before her illness she could always be found at her grandchildren’s activities to offer them support.  She was very proud of her grandchildren and all of their achievements. 

Joyce was a courageous woman who was always full of energy and charisma.  Her greatest love was for her family, especially her grandchildren and it was during time spent with them that she was happiest. 

Joyce will be lovingly remembered and dearly missed by her husband Jim, her daughter and best friend Kim (Joe) Nigro, son Mark (Vivian) Cava, grandchildren: Dana (Trevor) Abraham, Joey (Tara) Nigro, Courtney (Lukas) Cava and Nicholas Nigro; brother Ron (Betty) Sawicki, sister Sonja (Morris) Zeleny, brother-in-law Albert (Sylvia) Cava, dear friends Maureen and Peter Bruni as well as by numerous nieces, nephews, other relatives and friends. 

She was predeceased by her granddaughter Vanessa Nigro, parents Dan and Anne Sawicki, brothers Ed and Don Sawicki, mother-in-law and father-in-law Virginia and Luigi Cava, sisters-in-law and brothers-in-law Sara and Bill Laine, Louis and Mary Nigro and Frank and Moira Cava. 

Funeral services will be held on Friday, February 13, 2015 when family and friends will gather in St. Anthony’s R.C. Church for the Funeral Mass beginning at 11:00 a.m. celebrated by Rev. Luigi Filippini.  Services will be complete in the church with a private inurnment at a later date. 

Memorial visitation will be held on Thursday, February 12, 2015 from 6-8 p.m. in the Sargent & Son Funeral Chapel, 21 N. Court Street.  In lieu of flowers memorials to the TBRHS Foundation-Northern Cancer Fund or the TBRHS Foundation-Northern Cardiac Fund would be appreciated.
