Mr. Jozsef Bakondi age 90 years, a resident of Thunder Bay, passed away in Thunder Bay Regional Health Sciences Centre, on Sunday, September 26, 2021. Jozsef was born in Felsotarkany, Hungary and moved to Canada, living most of those 64 years in Thunder Bay. He played the accordion (self taught). Jozsef liked to garden, started with a vegetable garden and later had plum trees. He was an excellent mechanic. He not only fixed and worked on automobiles, but he could fix small engines and various appliances. He also did many of his own home repairs. Joe worked for Parkeri, Hacquoil, and Hallow construction companies. Eventually he bought his own dump truck and started his own business where he mainly hauled gravel.
Lovingly remembered by daughter Helena Bakondi, son Jozsef Bakondi, grandson Aiden Bakondi, two sisters Julianna Montvai and Mary Toth, Mother of his children Dorothy Smith, numerous nieces and nephews in Hungary and Canada. Predeceased by his parents, one brother, four sisters, six brothers in law, three nieces and two nephews.
Funeral services will be held on Monday, October 4, 2021, at 1:00pm, in the Blake Funeral Chapel celebrated by Rev. Victor DeGagne. Interment will follow in Waldhof Cemetery. Visitation will be held one hour prior to service time. Should friends desire, memorials to Parkinson’s Foundation of Canada would be appreciated.
