We are very sad to announce that Karen Joan Black passed away peacefully in St. Joseph’s Hospice on March 5, 2017 with family at her side.
Karen was born September 4, 1956 in Winnipeg, MB to Thelma and Don Black. In the mid 80’s Karen moved into Great Lakes Home under the care of Community Living. Here she met MaryAnne Lafontaine and they became roommates and best friends. Several years later, Linda Filipovic joined the two friends and they became an inseparable trio. Due to ill health, Karen moved to the care of Northwest Options in the fall of 2016.
Karen is survived and sadly missed by four sisters Terry (Don) Scott, Wendy (Norman) Oddleifson, Susan (John) Ritchie and Jackie Black. She is also survived by nieces and nephews Vicky, Dawn, Chris, Leah, Jay, Keith and Jessica.
The family would like to thank Community Living for assisting Karen to have a wonderful productive life. A special thanks to Morgan and Elizabeth. Family also thanks Northwest Options for their assistance in the last difficult months of Karen’s life, especially to Nicole and Cheryl.
Thank you to the doctors and nurses at Thunder Bay Regional and a special thank you to the nurses at St. Joseph’s Hospice. Your care is beyond words.
Cremation has taken place and interment will be at a later date. In lieu of flowers donations to the Thunder Bay Humane Society or the charity of your choice would be greatly appreciated.
