One year ago on April 13, 2022, Ken Hartviksen aged 68 passed away suddenly and unexpectedly following a minor medical procedure.

Ken has left behind to grieve, his wife of 48 years - Connie, their daughter Keely Cambly (husband Stephen and grandson Nash) and son Kellen Hartviksen (wife Rachel and grandson Ryker). Ken was predeceased by his father Robert Hartviksen, sister Susan Furlotte and niece Melissa Furlotte.

Ken is also survived by his mother Audrey Hartviksen, brother Grant (Grace) Hartviksen, his sister Karen (Michael) Leonard, brother-in-law Don Furlotte, his nephew Shawn (Armelle) Hartviksen, and his nieces Mandy (Mike) Ahtila, Jennifer Hamilton (Chris), Alison (Bojan) Celan and Melanie (Nick) Strzalkowski.

Ken will always be remembered as an intelligent, kind person with unwavering principles, staunch ethics, and a fierce sense of honour and justice.  He applied them not only to himself but to those he worked with, students he taught, as well as his family.

Professionally, Ken was a Professor of finance/entrepreneurship/financial institutions in the Faculty of Business Administration at Lakehead University. He loved his students and teaching and for many students, he left a lasting impact on their lives. He was the founding Dean of the Faculty of Business Administration, Lakehead University, where he was a Professor for 42 years.  Ken sat on many volunteer committees and boards locally, provincially and nationally over his years, including as the former Treasurer of the Evangelical Lutheran Church in Canada.

Many will remember Ken for his love and exceptional gift of music.  Beginning as a young child, Ken played the violin and then mastered singing and playing the guitar.  During the last 15 years he also enjoyed nature photography and together with his wife Connie, travelled miles on land and on water to capture incredible images of the diverse flora and fauna of Northwestern Ontario.

To his immediate family, Ken was everything - loving husband, dedicated father, doting grandfather, avid outdoorsman, skilled builder, voice of reason and encouragement, constructive advisor and confidante. He is so missed.

Over the past year as the informal news of Ken’s passing spread, many people reached out offering their condolences and support via email, cards, phone calls, flowers, gift baskets etc.  The family has been truly grateful and offers their sincere thanks.

A private family Memorial Service was held for Ken at 10:30 a.m. on April 13, 2023 at Our Saviour’s Lutheran Church, with Pastor Matthew Diegel officiating.
