Ken Lamothe

It is with great sadness that we announce the passing of our Dad on January 28, 2022 on 1A at TBRHSC with family by his side.

He was born in Sudbury on Nov 20, 1948 to Ronald and Wilda Lamothe. He was the big brother to Brian and Gord Lamothe. He left Sudbury when he was young to attend Lakehead University’s Forestry program in Thunder Bay and this was where he started his family with our mother Eileen. He returned back to Sudbury after many years in Thunder Bay. This last year he moved back to Thunder Bay to be closer to his children and grandchildren.

He spent his life in the forestry industry, grain elevators, self-employed as a building contractor and cabinet builder, and lastly at Vale where he retired as a Millwright. His passion for building and fixing things kept him busy. His biggest project before getting sick was renovating the house his dad built. He built the kitchen cabinets from raw wood he planed, sanded, and glued together, finished with custom stain. He truly loved building things from scratch.  He also loved hunting, fishing, and anything outdoors. He had many fond memories of traveling to Texas and fishing in the ocean.

He was predeceased by his parents Ronald and Wilda Lamothe and nephew Timothy Lamothe.

He is survived by his children Kari (James) Weaver, Ron, and Tom (Tara) Lamothe and his grandchildren Cole, Mya, Lucas, Remi, and Parker. His brothers Brian (Linda) Lamothe and family, Gord (Kathy) Lamothe and family.

He put up an amazing fight this last year with all the ups and downs that his cancer brought him and he called all the shots up to the end. He was a deeply spiritual person and had lots of little sayings that he would share with anyone he met.  He was a friend of Bill W and as a family we can’t thank all his friends in Sudbury enough with all the assistance, support, and strength they gave all of us, especially during covid when we couldn’t leave the Thunder Bay Health District easily. He appreciated all the phone calls and visits from Sudbury friends, so many times it brightened his day and you were definitely his family. Everyone in Sudbury who has our numbers always has a place to stay if you ever travel to or through Thunder Bay.

Thank you to all the staff in Emerg, 3B, 1A and the Cancer Centre (Dr Del Paggio, Dr. Ward, Mel, Carleigh), your exceptional care gave us more time with our dad. A special thank-you to our family and friends who supported us as we supported our dad. Dad, we love you, miss you, and are happy you are at peace and have no pain. Cremation has already taken place and our family will have a small Celebration of Life at a later date.
