Kenneth Stewart

On Monday May 4th, 2021 Ken Stewart passed away unexpectedly, at the home he lovingly built for his family, at the age of 57. He was born on September 30th, 1963 to parents Gerald and Elizabeth Stewart. He attended McKenzie Public School and Hillcrest High School.

He began his apprenticeship as a machinist at Thunder Bay Hydraulics and worked there for 23 years. His career led him to Redpath Mine in Mongolia where he was hired to teach Nationals as machinists. Typical of Ken, after some hydraulic issues arose he lent his expertise and ended up designing hydraulic systems for the mine. Upon returning home he worked at Resolute Mill as a millwright and lastly at Vitera Port Terminal.

Ken had a true passion for food and cooking. He hosted many sausage making parties in his beautiful kitchen with family, friends and neighbours. He loved to gift his “latest batch” with a quick visit and a promise of more to come, even shipping his treasures to his grand sons in Brampton so they wouldn’t miss out.

Whatever new adventure he attempted he did with gusto! Weather it was raising 50 or more chickens, growing many, many tomatoes, or trying a new recipe in the smoker he would work it to perfection.

Ken was a true outdoors man and enjoyed everything Thunder Bay has to offer, hunting, fishing, camping and boating. Family gatherings at the lake usually included his famous wake board invention. It was made from an old piece of plywood and modified over the years, later named “The Death Board”. It was tradition for each and every child to conquer it with encouragement from everyone on shore.

Ken lost his mother at the age of 4 which had a profound effect on him. Throughout his life family was his priority. He was so very proud of his children, their accomplishments and the people they have become.

Ken will be sadly missed by his children Amanda Stewart (Brian Bosley), Ben Stewart and Riley Stewart, his grandchildren Logan and Lucas Bosley, his siblings Susan Calhoun (Brent Calhoun), Darlene Green (Russ Green), Gwen Stott (Ed Stott), Cynthia Stewart, Jerry Stewart (Theresa Stewart). Ken was predeceased by his loving parents, Elizabeth in 1968 and his father Gerald in 2004.

Due to current gathering restrictions, Funeral Services for Ken will be held privately for family on Wednesday, May 12, 2021 in the Chapel of Harbourview Funeral Centre presided by Rev. Gordon Holroyd at 11:00 a.m.

Please visit www.harbourviewfuneral.ca to view the services live or you may watch at a later time as it will be archived on the same site.

If so desired, expressions of sympathy may be made to the Heart & Stroke Foundation.
