The family of Kirk Keeping are heartbroken to announce the unexpected passing of Kirk, age 67, on February 14, 2021 due to a massive heart attack.

Kirk was born in Marathon on February 20, 1953 to his parents Stanley and Edith Keeping. As a young boy he grew up in Nova Scotia, Calgary and his family ultimately ended up in Thunder Bay as his hometown.

Kirk was always drawn to nature and missed many days at school skipping rocks and fishing at any creek he could find; he said that was where he was most at peace. As a young boy he played Elks peewee hockey as a goalie and participated in the army cadets. On February 23, 1974 he married Rose MacLaurin at Mt. McKay ski lodge and together they had their son Karry Keeping, whom they were both very proud of. Kirk moved his family in the early years to Victoria Island and there he started a Charting business with his vessel called the ‘A Rose Charters’. He enjoyed the many rides he took on his Harley Davidson on the island. He was a jack of all trades from roofing, railroad, and automobiles. After 20 years he brought his family back to Thunder Bay (FWFN) to continue his journey in life. Kirk had a great way of listening and storytelling. He met many people along his travels that became long-time friends. If you were a friend of Kirks, you were a friend for life.

Kirk is survived by Rose Keeping, his son Karry Keeping, grandchildren; Kyla, Brennon and Skylar, (special grandson Lance), four great grandchildren Braxson, Brealynn, Mazie and Tyson, his mother Edith Keeping, and his three sisters Deb (Roy), Cathie and Paula (Don). Also survived by Uncle Bob, Aunt Nel, Aunt Marie and numerous nieces, nephews and cousins. He was predeceased by his father Stanley James Keeping, in-laws Geraldine & Donald MacLaurin, and grandparents Margaret & John Keeping and Mary & Harvey Cres. Due to pandemic restrictions, cremation has taken place and a private service will be held on Friday, February 26, 2021.
