Laila Mary Sinnemaki
December 21, 1927 – August 27, 2016

With heavy hearts we announce the passing of Laila Mary Sinnemaki on Saturday, August 27, 2016. Laila was born in Port Arthur, Ontario on December 21, 1927 and was raised in the Mabella and Shabaqua, Ontario areas by her parents Lyyli and Julius Tuorila.

Her family and home were her life. She was famous for coffee and dessert always available to whomever joined her at her table. Christmas fruitcake and mojakka nights were long held traditions.

In her earlier years she enjoyed camping and fishing with husband Bill and friends throughout Northwestern Ontario. She was a lifelong charter member of Christ Lutheran Church, a devoted Christian and now safe in God’s arms. She met the love of her life, Wilho (Bill) Sinnemaki and together they had 60 plus years of marriage.

She is survived by son Dennis, wife Linda and their children Jeffrey and Lauren (Eric), and by daughter Adele and her children, Jonathan and Robyn-Leigh.

Laila was blessed to be called “Granny” by her great-granddaughter Brooklynn, who was the apple of her eye. Laila’s relationship with granddaughter Lauren was genuinely special and she had been eagerly looking forward to the upcoming wedding. Sisters, Arlene, Carol (Stan), sister-in-law Mae Tuorila, her dear friend Eunice Johnson and numerous nieces and nephews are left to mourn her.

She was predeceased by her husband Bill, her parents Lyyli and Julius Tuorila, step-father Ivar Haapasalo, brother Stan Tuorila and nephew Ken Tuorila, in-laws Valentin and Elviira Sinnemaki, sons-in-laws David Zupansky and Robert Cadieu and brothers-in-laws Aimo and Paavo Sinnemaki.

We would like to thank the home care workers, the excellent staff at Dawson Court and most recently the Hogarth Riverview Manor for the kindness they showed mom over the years.

Funeral services for the late Laila Sinnemaki will be held on Wednesday August 31, 2016 at 11am at Christ Lutheran Church, 47 Walkover Street, Thunder Bay, Ontario. In lieu of flowers, if friends so desire, memorial donations to Christ Lutheran Church would be greatly appreciated.

Arrangements have been entrusted to the Everest Funeral Chapel, 299 Waverley Street at Algoma.
