Larry James Maki passed away unexpectedly but peacefully on Tuesday May 8, 2018 at St. Joseph’s Hospital, surrounded by the love of his family.
He was born September 3, 1951 in Fort William, the eldest of four, to Frances Moore (Ulakovic) and William Maki. He attended F.W.C.I and Lakehead University prior to commencing his career with the Canada Revenue Agency in Ottawa, Regina and in Thunder Bay, retiring in 2006 after 32 years. In his younger days he enjoyed baseball, memorably winning the Little League championship. He was also an avid golfer. He carried a passion for music throughout his life, from playing in a band to watching live music all over town. Most of all he appreciated the simple things, time with family, an afternoon drive, coffee or a drink with friends. He always had a steady supply of sarcastic wit, and no fear of sharing!
Larry will be lovingly remembered by daughters Kimberly (Stefan Grambart), Michelle (Alex Recinos), both of Toronto, and Kylee (Liam McCartney) of Sydney, Australia, his dear mom Frances (Frank), sisters Sandra Boyes and Barbara Maki, brother Bill Maki (Mayleen) of Lindsay, nephews Thomas, Michael, Joshua, Dylan, Lee and niece Ashley. He will also be missed by his extended family and friends. Larry was predeceased by his father William.
According to his wishes, cremation has taken place and there will be a private family interment at St. Patrick’s cemetery. For those who wish, donations can be made in his memory to the Heart and Stroke Foundation or the charity of your choice. Thank you to the kind nurses and staff at TBRHSC and St. Joseph’s Hospital for their compassionate care these past few months, and a special thank you to RN Jennifer on his last day.
Larry Maki will be remembered in the Blake Funeral Chapel Memorial Grove. Annual dedication service Sunday, June 9, 2019.
