Larry James Poulter passed away peacefully on Friday, December 31, 2021.
He was born on November 5, 1949, in Fort William, Ontario. Larry attended Lakehead University and the University of Alberta completing his Master’s in Education. Larry was a principal and teacher for 30 years in Alberta where he was also a Second Lieutenant at the 2995 Royal Canadian Army Cadet Corps. After retiring from his career in Alberta with the Northern Lights School Division, he moved back to his hometown where he met his wife and loving partner, Carolyn. They were married in Las Vegas joined by family and friends. He continued to work in education for several years in Northern First Nation communities in Ontario. Larry was known for all his projects, and he always said, “it’s about the journey not the destination.” Known for his great love of Loon Lake and spending time with his family and friends, “Uncle Larry Adventures” and finding “jobs” for the young kids were a constant joy for him and those who were lucky enough to get involved. He was always keen to help anyone out without asking anything in return. Larry believed the more the merrier and everyone knew they were welcome to spend time at his camp. He loved being in/on the water and any type of boat, but especially sailboats. During the winter months Larry swam with a group of his closest friends and family at Churchill Pool so often that the lifeguards nicknamed them “The Iceburgs.”
Larry is survived and will be missed by his wife Carolyn Poulter, his children Lindsey Poulter, Jesse Poulter and Megan (Oleg) Yakymovych, grandchildren Avery, Jerrick, Maksym, Olan and Lukas, brother Fred (Susan) Poulter, sister Valerie (Dan) Zeleny, brother-in-law Alan (Barb) Mills, numerous nieces and nephews, including Erin Mantis who shared his love of water and his mustang and his great nieces and nephews.
Larry was predeceased by his parents Frederick and Francis Poulter, his sister Linda Mills and nephews Scott Poulter.
Cremation has taken place. A celebration of life will be held this summer at Loon Lake. The date is yet to be determined. The family is requesting that all attendees wear sweatpants or shorts as a tribute to Larry and his strong belief in being comfortable. Online condolences may be made at www.sargentandson.com.
