Ms. Laura Braovac, age 57 years, a long time resident of Thunder Bay, passed away peacefully with family and friends by her side in St. Joseph's Hospice on Friday, March 26, 2010 after a lengthy illness. Laura was born in Marathon, Ontario on December 13, 1952 to Gordon and Elma Opie. She grew up in Thunder Bay before moving to British Columbia as a young woman. After 15 years there she returned to Thunder Bay where she worked for the Lakehead Board of Education for over 20 years until her illness required her to stop. She is survived by her brother Ken Opie of Ottawa, sister Marilou Lawrence of Toronto, brother Willie (Donna) Opie, 5 nephews, 3 great-nieces and other relatives and a number of close friends. She was predeceased by her parents. A memorial service will be held on Wednesday, March 31, 2010 at 11:30 a.m. in the Sargent & Son Funeral Chapel, 21 N. Court Street, with Rev. Lloyd Ivany presiding. As expressions of sympathy memorials to the T.B.R.H.S.C. Northern Cancer Fund or St. Joseph's Care Group would be appreciated. On-line condolences may be made at
