Lauretta Joan Cowley, age 74 years, passed away at the Thunder Bay Regional Health Sciences Centre on October 3, 2021.

Lauretta was born on February 22, 1947 in Emo, Ontario. All her grandchildren and great-grandchildren knew her as Kokum. Lauretta loved to travel and play bingo. Her last place of employment was Anduhyaun in Toronto. One of her biggest joys was celebrating family member’s birthdays.

Kokum leaves behind her two daughters Debbie (Darryl) and Kristel of Thunder Bay; her eleven grandchildren and eight great-grandchildren; her brother Walter Cowley of Northwest Angle First Nation; as well as numerous nieces and nephews of Thunder Bay, Toronto, Naotaegwanning First Nation, Sioux Lookout, Kenora, Manitou Rapids First Nation and Northwest Angle First Nation, who all miss her tremendously.

She is predeceased by her husband Joseph Bird Sr., son Joe Bird Jr., daughter Petula Bird, her parents Sarah and Jimmy Cowley, brothers Michael, Paul, Dennis and Jerry Cowley, and sisters Edel and Marlene Cowley.

A special thank you to all staff at Hogarth Riverview Manor on 5 South, the nurses and doctors at the TBRHSC, as well as all the staff at Harbourview Funeral Centre on this sad occasion.
