It is with sadness that the family of Leonard Covino announces his passing on June 18, 2018. Born September 28th, 1942 he spent over forty years of his life living, working for CP Rail and raising his family in the East End.
He made life long friendships with people like Adrian Marson, Bobby Kruk, Joe Labate and many others. Leonard was involved in a variety of sports growing up such as hockey, baseball, football, track and boxing, which in later years led him into volunteering and coaching with Little League Baseball and Elks Tom Thumb Hockey. He put his knowledge and his love of sports to good use.
Another thing that Leonard accomplished was joining the 18(Thunder Bay Medical Company) at the age of 48 where he travelled and made another group of lasting friendships. He truly loved his time doing the exercises. An extremely proud moment in his life was when he became the President of the Slovak Legion Branch # 129. He enjoyed the conventions and meeting the representatives from all across Canada.
To be honest the undertaking of trying to explain our father’s love for the outdoors was easier than first thought. It’s unfortunate this will be kept short. Can you imagine the distance between 12B-15B? This was our father’s playground for over fifty years. Here is where he showed and taught us how to hunt and fish.
Dad you are in the record book in so many categories, leaving behind so many memories for so many others. He was predeceased by his parents Joseph and Celeste, brothers Joey and Herby, sisters Evelyn Graham and Carole Brown. He is survived by wife Gilda (Curtola), sons Mark and David, daughters Diana and Jennifer (Marc Butuk), grandchildren Sarah (Scott Myllyaho), Joshua, Taylor and Ryleigh. Great granddaughter Michaela, brother Tom (Linda), sisters Marie, Florence and Lorna, sister-in-laws Elenore Curtola, Vicky Curtola, June Covino, brother-in-law Bill Tymura. Numerous nieces and nephews also survive.
Funeral services will be held on, Monday June 25, 2018 at 10:00 a.m. at St. Peter's Church celebrated by Rev. Joseph Arockiam with a celebration of life to follow at the Slovak Legion Br.#129. In lieu of flowers donations to the Alzheimer’s Society would be appreciated.
