Leonard Bert Speak, known to friends and family as Len, has left us with a treasure trove of laughter and unforgettable memories. He passed peacefully on August 22nd, 2025, at TBRHSC.

Len's story began on September 13th, 1939 in Port Arthur. His life was a medley of love, adventure, and countless punchlines.

A man of toil and triumph, Len's journey through the labours of life began with the call of selling newspapers on the street corner, to a bellhop at the Prince Arthur Hotel. For three decades, he mastered the malts as an Operator at Canada Malting. Retirement couldn't slow him down; instead, he fired up his entrepreneurial spirit and founded Abba Moving & Hauling.

An avid athlete, Len collected championships and trophies too countless to mention. His dedication to curling, broomball, golfing and coaching women’s softball was a natural gift. He loved drafting his fantasy hockey and football teams and was known to make a trade or two in the middle of the night.

Len was a proud member of FWFN and was eager to learn about his ancestry and participate in community events. He had a love for country music and entertaining people with his fondness for Karaoke and seasoned ability to tell a joke like it was his first time telling it. Len leaned into playfulness and instilled playfulness in his sweet grandchild Amelia.

Together for 41 years he leaves his wife Irene Speak. Daughters Laura Speak (Chris), Kelly Speak, Pamela Melenchuk (Jason) and Lynette Kozlowski (Craig). Grandchildren Derek, Marcus (Merren), Emily, Milton, Olivia, Owen & Amelia. Great grandchild Ilee. Sisters-in-law Alice Miller and Elaine Macklin. Nieces and Nephews: Andy, Karen, Sharon, Eleanor, Robert, Larry, Robbie, Timmy, Lorna, Bev, Billy, Clifford, Kenny, April, Jeanie, Rodney, Donny, Lanaya, Danny, Tyson and Tanya.

Predeceased by Parents Mary Speak and Wilfred Speak. Siblings Bob Speak, Jimmy Speak, Mona Linton and Raymond Speak. Mother-in-law Anna Pitkanin. Sisters-in-law Marilyn Speak, and Bev Kraft. Brothers-in-law Randy Kraft, Dean Miller, and Richard Macklin, Nephew Jamie.

The family would like to give thanks to Len’s Medical team: Dr Bannon, Dr Bon, Dr Al Katari, Dr Sellek and nurse Georgette. The Manor House Day Program, for giving him joy and purpose. And to Family Friend Elinore Howald for always being there. A life as fulfilling as Len's is not one to be mourned but celebrated. So, let's raise a glass to the man who lived a life worth retelling, and let's tell it with the same mischievous twinkle in our eyes that Len would have had.

Farewell, Len Speak, you've left the stage of life, but your act will always be a tough one to follow.

Please Join us on September 13th for a celebration of life at 1pm at Port Arthur Curling Club. In lieu of flowers, donations can be made to Manor House Adult Day Program, Wesway or Pro Kids.
