It is with broken hearts we say goodbye to Leonard William Keith Edwards (better known as “Bompa” by his family), age 92, who passed away peacefully on July 7th, 2024 at the TBRHSC. As a son, brother, father, bompa, great bompa, uncle, and friend – Len lived a full life. The world is emptier without him, but richer for his presence in our lives.

Born November 3, 1931, at McKellar hospital, Len was the 6th of 10 children born to Walter Charles & Ivy (Hampshire).

Len grew up in Fort William. He attended Franklin School until he needed to help out the family and started working at a bush camp, then Pipers Hardware. After he got married, he worked "the pit" at car racing. His dream was to always own a jaguar - but it was only a dream. He retired from Canada Malting in 1996.

He met the love of his life, Lenore, while she was working at the theatre and were married in 1951. They shared 42 years together before her passing in 1994.

Bompa was a big Chicago Blackhawks, Toronto Blue Jays, and Winnipeg Blue Bombers fan. For a term he was the president of the North Neebing Centre and had many fond memories out in Rosslyn with friends the Ottleys , Hoards, and Franklins. Later in life Len enjoyed travelling with his friend Thelma and losing a bit of money at the casinos, as well as spending time at camp at Waller Lake.

He was predeceased by his wife Lenore (nee White), his parents Walter & Ivy, son Keith, siblings Bobby, Jimmy, Irene, Murielle, Ruth, Barb and Ronnie. He will be lovingly remembered by his children Terry (Marian), Audrey (Bernie) Boggs, Lee (Nadine Herbert), grandchildren Crystal (Charles) Poley, Adrian (Nikki) Boggs, Jessica Feitler (and her mother Susan), Kia Mead, Cora Edwards, Neve Edwards, great grandchildren Paisley, Ruby, Ethan, Danika, Aubern, siblings Bud, Dorothy, and many friends.

Our family is forever grateful for the loving care provided to Bompa by Chartwell Isabella over the past years. The family would also like to extend our gratitude to the staff at St. Joe’s, and all the TBRHSC staff for their compassionate care for Bompa during his final months.

Cremation has taken place. A celebration of life for Len for family and friends will be held at a later date. Interment at Sunset Memorial Gardens to follow.

Though he may be gone from sight,

he will exist forever in our memory

and always in our hearts.
