Mrs. Lilian Ross passed away on Thursday, May 17, 2018 after a brief visit to Thunder Bay Regional Hospital. She was born August 2, 1946 in Manchester, England, to Andy and Jean Vis (nee Walton) (predeceased).
She emigrated to Argentina, then Canada in 1956. With her parents and her sister Ema Vis. Later, her youngest sister Sandra was born, and the family grew up in Thunder Bay. She is survived by her sisters Ema (Gerry Orr), and Sandra (Marvin Chony).
She was a graduate of Westgate Highschool and was a Registered Nursing Assistant who worked at Port Arthur General. She later married Richard Donald Ross at Holy Family Church in Thunder Bay on August 3, 1967. After a brief period living in Prince George, BC, and Sarnia Ontario, she and her husband raised four children, Charlene, Paul, Christopher (Jane), and Kevin (Nancy) in Oliver-Paipoonge Township and in Thunder Bay.
She is survived by grandchildren Amber Ross, Ashyea Ross, Serena Ross, Kole Ross, Alex Ross, Christopher Lefevre, Iris Lefevre, and Connor Lefevre, and numerous other unofficial “grandchildren”. She was an active homemaker for many years and was involved with supporting her children and was President of St Augustine’s Altar Society, converting as an adult to Catholicism. She was a leader with Scouts Canada and was Assistant Manager at Kmart Cafeteria for many years.
She will be missed and fondly remembered for her kindness, tolerance, compassion, and a courage of quiet dignity in her later years facing numerous health conditions. Funeral services will be held on Friday, May 25, 2018 when family and friends will gather for Funeral Mass at St. Augustine’s Church, at 11:00 a.m. celebrated by Rev. Randal Morisseau. Interment will take place at a later date. Prayers will be offered Thursday, May 24, 2018 at 7:00 p.m. in the Blake Funeral Chapel. If friends desire, memorials to a charity of choice would be appreciated.
Lilian Ross will be remembered in the Blake Funeral Chapel Memorial Grove. Annual dedication service Sunday, June 9, 2019.
