It is with great sorrow we announce the passing of Lionel Albert Muloin.
Lionel's journey began on the family homestead in Dorion Ontario on August 30,1931 and ended peacefully on July 23, 2022 with family by his side.
Lionel was no stranger to hard work. He moved to Nipigon and that is where a young lady caught his eye on her daily walk to and from work. He told his co-workers that he planned to marry that young lady and he did just that. Shirley was the love of his life and they celebrated nearly 72 years of marriage and raised five children.
He was employed in a wide variety of jobs, working his way up to camp foreman in a bush camp, but that required a lot of time away from his family so he left that position to work closer to home and concluded his career at the Dorion Fish Hatchery. Lionel had a dream to be a farmer and he realized his dream returning to Dorion and purchasing a farm primarily raising cattle.
Hunting and fishing were a necessity growing up and it helped feed his family but it was never a chore to him. He loved these activities which he shared with his family and later took up trapping, like his grand father before him.
Lionel was a proud Metis man who blazed a good path for his family and others to follow. He initiated the plan to rehabilitate fish species in Black Bay and worked tirelessly in that effort. He did not live to see this project completed but created the foundation to ensure success in the future.
Lionel was a proficient storyteller with a keen memory and shared local and family history. Many stories were exchanged in the hunt camp and trap shack recalling great memories from days gone by.
He was a skilled carpenter building everything from homes to birdhouses and his grandchildren were always welcome to help him out in his wood working shop.
He will be lovingly remembered by his wife Shirley (Oja) Muloin, his children Judy (Jim) McCullough, Donna (Alex) Humphrey, Karen (John) Lukie, Kevin (Angela) Muloin and predeceased by Connie Muloin Dallaire (Henry). Lionel was a proud grandfather of Scott, Trevor, Jennifer, Brad, Lisa, Dena, Ryan, Adam, Michelle, Carli and Milo and great grandfather of Braelyn, Brendan, Ryalie, Harrison, Hudson, Samson and Grace.
Lionel was a mentor to his family and we never questioned if he loved or cared for us because he made it so obvious.
Cremation has taken place and a private celebration of his life will take place at a future date. If friends so desire, in lieu of flowers, donations to the Canadian Liver Foundation would be greatly appreciated by the family.
