Louis Joseph Franchi



Mr. Louis Joseph Franchi, age 91 years, of Isabella Retirement Residence died with family by his side at St. Joseph’s Hospital on June 1st. Born in Fort William on March 5, 1924, he has been a lifelong resident of Thunder Bay. Louis was a WWII veteran.

He was employed at Northland Machinery for 25 years, and then worked for the Ministry of Transportation until his retirement in 1989.

He was a longtime parishioner of St. Agnes Church. Louis is survived by his daughters Lynn Martin (Randy) of Sioux Lookout and Laurie Jarvis (Guy) and his grandchildren Daniel & Sara Martin and Lindsay & Andrew Jarvis; sister-in-law Sylvia Franchi of North Bay.

He is also survived by numerous nieces, nephews, and other relatives. Louis was predeceased by his wife Marie (nee Mior) in 1994, parents Netta & Joseph Franchi, brothers John and Norm, sisters Shirley, Marie Krasniuk and brother-in-law Paul, and Rita Swanson and brother-in-law Iver. Funeral services will be held on Monday, July 27, 2015, when family and friends will gather at St. Agnes Church for Mass at 11:00 a.m. celebrated by Rev. James Panikulam. 

Interment will follow in the family plot at Sunset Memorial Gardens.  If desired, donations may be made to the charity of your choice.

The family sincerely thanks the cardiac staff at the Thunder Bay Regional Health Sciences Centre and the staff on 5N and 2S at St. Joseph’s Hospital. Deepest appreciation to both Dr. Hartford and Patti for their years of care. Special thanks to Shelley Harris, Geri Chivers-Wilson and all Isabella Retirement Residence staff for making Isabella his home.

Louis Franchi will be remembered in the Blake Funeral Chapel Memorial Grove.  Annual dedication service Sunday, June 12, 2016.
