Luigi Marcel Pascolo, age 90 years, a resident of Thunder Bay, passed away peacefully on Thursday morning, January 26, 2017 in St. Joseph’s Hospital, Hospice Unit.
Luigi was born October 15, 1926 in Troyes, France to parents Anna (nee Bellina) and Giovanni Baptista Pascolo of Venzone, Italy. He lived in Troyes, France for 15 years until March 1941 when he moved to Amaro, Italy living there until 1954 when he immigrated to Canada. He lived in Quebec City, Quebec until 1956, and then moved to Port Arthur, Ontario.
Luigi worked in the bush until 1970, transferring to construction and working as a cement finisher until his retirement in 1991. In the off seasons of construction, he would work as a carpet, flooring and ceramic tile installer.
Luigi was a member of the Associazione Nazionale Alpini, Italian Society of Port Arthur, Principe Di Piemonte, and Venezia Giulia of Thunder Bay.
Luigi will be lovingly remembered by his wife Vittoria; children Mary Waplak and Laura McRury (Thomas); grandchildren Tina Milani (Darren), Bradley Waplak (Jodie Frenette), Serena McRury (Josh Sokolowski) and Nerissa McRury (Zack Sokolowski); numerous great grandchildren; brother Raimondo of Venzone, Italy.
He was predeceased by his parents; son-in-law Jerry Waplak; and by brothers Roberto of France, Fabiano of Carna, Italy and Eugenio of Pragelis, Italy.
Funeral Services will be held on Tuesday, January 31, 2017 leaving the Harbourview Funeral Centre at 10:00 a.m. to St. Anthony’s Church, 123 Hilldale Road, for the Funeral Mass to be celebrated by Rev. Luigi Filippini beginning at 10:30 a.m. Interment will follow in St. Andrew’s Catholic Cemetery.
Visitation will be held on Monday evening, January 30th from 6:00 until 8:00 p.m. in the Chapel of Harbourview Funeral Centre, 499 North Cumberland Street, where the Prayer Service will begin at 7:00 p.m. As expressions of sympathy donations to the Thunder Bay Regional Health Sciences Foundation-Northern Cancer Fund would be appreciated.
