Luigi Sgarbossa

February 12, 1928 – July 18, 2016

Luigi Sgarbossa, at the age of 88, passed away peacefully at TBRHSC on Monday July 18th, 2016 with his family by his side.

Luigi immigrated from Galliera, Veneta Italy, on July 3rd 1956, to start his life journey in Canada. In 1957, he met the love of his life Melina Veneziano in the small town of Schreiber, Ontario. After a wonderful courtship they were married on October 4th, 1958.

Luigi had various occupations before finding his home at Mascarin Auto Body, where he worked for 35 years until his retirement in 1993. Luigi was very proud of his Italian heritage and culture, which he demonstrated with his volunteer work, at the Principe Di Piemonte Society, as a council member, St. Dominic’s parishioner council, and president of the St. Dominic’s seniors club.  He was very devoted to his Roman Catholic faith.

Luigi was very proud of his wife Melina’s many volunteer projects, which he supported by being by her side through each fundraising event. His great joy came later in his life with the birth of his 3 granddaughters, and most recently, the birth of his great-granddaughter (Princess). His time spent with his family were his most cherished moments.

Luigi accepted everyone and judged no one.

He was a loving, kind, generous husband, father, nonno, and bisnonno. Luigi will be sadly missed by his loving wife Melina; children Maria Sgarbossa (Daniel), Rina Pratola (Silvio); (Tom); his grandchildren, Brandi, Alexis, Michelle and great grandchild Ashlyn. Also, his sister, Virginia Bizzotto (Guiseppe) in Italy, many nieces, nephews and special relatives. Luigi was pre-deceased by his father, Guiseppe; mother Maria; his brothers Mario, Giovanni, Tony and Angelo. Our family will miss his gentle soul and his constant support.

Cremation has taken place and a Funeral Mass for Luigi will be held on Thursday, July 21, 2016 at 11:00am in the St. Dominic's Church, celebrated by Rev. Maurizio Maifredi  c.s. Visitation with the family will begin at 10:00am Thursday at the church. Private family interment will follow in Our Lady of Charity Mausoleum, St. Andrews Cemetery. Flowers are gratefully declined, donations encouraged to the Heart & Stroke Foundation and the TBRHS Foundation.

Luigi Sgarbossa will be remembered in the Blake Funeral Chapel Memorial Grove.  Annual dedication service Sunday, June 11, 2017.
