December 9th, 1949 – April 24th, 2025
It is with deep sorrow that we announce the passing of our beloved Madeline (Jocelyn) Shebagabow. We know her as Jocelyn, and she was a beloved mother, daughter, sister, aunt, cousin and friend who touched the lives of many with her kindness, strength and unwavering love.
Jocelyn played a vital role in her family and community by helping to raise her numerous nieces and nephews with patience and compassion. She was the proud mother of her only son, Donald. She dedicated herself to his upbringing with love and devotion. Additionally, she cared for her youngest brother, demonstrating her selfless nature and commitment to her family. Despite living with epilepsy, Jocelyn faced life’s challenge with resilience and grace, inspiring all who knew her.
A talented beader and crafter, Jocelyn found joy in creating beautiful art. She also loved to play baseball in her younger years. She delighted in taking long walks, bike rides, playing pool and visiting her many friends at bingo and at the Pizzeria. She enjoyed family time, telling stories and sharing her many photos of our family. She has a beautiful collection.
Jocelyn was predeceased by parents Peter & Christine Shebagabow; her brothers Roger and Jerry; her grandparents Marie & John Mendowegan and Frank & Madeline Shebagabow; her nephews Raymond, Kevin and Greg and numerous aunts, uncles and extended family members.
Jocelyn is survived by her son Donald (Sarah); grandchildren Xavier, Marcus and Nevaeh; her siblings Sarah, Martha, Wilfred, Arthur, and Terry and all of her nieces and nephews, great nephews and nieces. Her warmth, generosity and vibrant spirit will be deeply missed by all who knew her.
Jocelyn’s legacy of love, resilience, creativity will forever remain in the hearts of her family and friends.
A Memorial service will be held to celebrate her life at the Community Center in Long Lake #58 First Nation on Monday, April 5th, 2025. Funeral Service will be held at the St. John the Baptist (Infant Jesus) Roman Catholic Church in Longlac on Tuesday, May 6th, 2025 at 11:00am, officiated by Father Hugo Tremblay.
