It is with great sadness that we announce that our precious baby girl, Madelyn Ann Young, gained her angel wings on Friday, February 3, 2023. She passed away peacefully at Sick Kids Hospital in Toronto, while cuddled in the arms of her Mom and Dad.
Madelyn was born on April 25, 2021 in Thunder Bay. She was a sparkle that could light up anyone's day, especially when you saw her smile or heard her giggle. Maddie loved going for walks with Mom and Dad, Saturday morning breakfast dates and cheering on the Maple Leafs. She loved being in the water whether it was for her swimming lessons or just relaxing in her bubble baths. Despite the challenges she faced, Madelyn was a happy little girl, a fighter and showed determination and strength. While her time with us was short, we are so blessed to call her our daughter and the memories made will be cherished in our hearts forever. We know her spirit will live on in us every day.
Madelyn will be deeply missed by her loving parents, Laura (nee MacKenzie) and Ryan Young; her Nana Lori Ann MacKenzie and grandparents Glenn (Sandra) Young and Line Young; her great-grandparents Sandra Curtis, Albert and Denise Godmaire and Clifford Young; uncle Matt MacKenzie and aunts Jenn (Brad) Steeves and Leah MacKenzie (Brett Pattison) as well as her cousins Emily and Mia. Madelyn’s special dog sibling, Chinook, will also miss her dearly.
We are comforted in knowing that Madelyn was met in heaven with open arms by her Papa, Jim MacKenzie, and great-grandparents who predeceased her.
Funeral Services to celebrate our Madelyn, will be held on Saturday, February 11, 2023 at 10:00am in the WESTFORT CHAPEL, 420 West Gore Street at James. Interment will follow in Mountainview Cemetery. Visitation for family and friends will be held on Friday evening from 6:00pm until 8:00pm in the Westfort Chapel.
We would like to thank the George Jeffery’s Children Centre for all of their support and help they provided Madelyn during her short life. We would also like to thank the staff at Thunder Bay Regional Health Sciences Centre and Sick Kids Hospital for all of the care they provided to Madelyn. Finally we thank the Ronald McDonald House Toronto for providing the comfort of home during our stay in Toronto for the past few months.
Should friends so desire, a GoFundMe has been set up for donations which will be used to fight rare diseases like Madelyn's, and to support the amazing facilities that helped our family over the last few months. Donations can also be made directly to any of the above facilities in Madelyn’s name.
