Mrs. Maire Irene Karttunen (nee Kuortti), age 95, passed away peacefully on Monday, March 28, 2022.
Maire was born on November 1, 1926 in Kivennapa, Karjala, Finland.
Maire is survived by her stepson Peter “Pekka” Karttunen and his daughter Amanda (Ottawa); sister Toini Heiniö and her son Jan (Sweden); niece Virva (Finland), and her son Petteri and daughter Tiina and her daughter Heidi and son Marko (Finland); sisters’ children, Shirley (Maija), Ronald (Mavor), Arnold (Elaine); Mary Ann, Diana, Helen, Matti, Hannele, Nina (Sweden); as well as numerous friends around the world.
She was predeceased by her husband Aarne, parents Mikko and Anna-Mari, and sisters Martta, Maiju, Rauha, Inkeri and Aili.
The family would like to thank St. Joseph’s Staff for the compassionate care that was given to Maire.
Funeral Services will be held at 1:00 p.m. on Friday, April 8, 2022 in the Chapel of Harbourview Funeral Centre, presided by Pastor Jari Lahtinen. Visitation will begin one hour prior. Private interment in Riverside Cemetery will follow the reception. The service will be livestreamed and archived at www.harbourviewfuneral.ca where condolences may be offered as well.
In lieu of flowers, should friends so desire, donations in memory of Maire may be made to Hilldale Lutheran Church.
